The STA Level 2 Award in Swimming Pool Water Testing is designed to provide the basic information needed and the skills necessary to competently test swimming pool and spa water and to provide a basic understanding of the outcomes of those tests.

Who Should Attend

The four-hour Swimming Pool Water Testing qualification is perfect for those responsible for carrying out routine pool water tests. Many lifeguards for example must test pool water as part of their job role, and this qualification gives learners the basic information and skills necessary to competently test swimming pool and spa water, whilst providing a basic understanding of the outcomes of those tests.

• You’ll need to make sure you’ve met the following requirements before you attend your course:
• Be at least 16 years of age

Course Content

Swimming Pool Water Testing

• Know about swimming pool water test
• Explain the importance of maintaining the quality of swimming pool water
• Describe the range of tests that are used to judge the quality of swimming pool water, including:
• Sensory inspections (for example, clarity, scum lines and foaming)
• pH
• Free disinfectant levels
• Combined disinfectant levels
• Microbiological
• Explain why it is important to ensure test equipment is free of contamination
• Describe an active leisure organisation’s standard operating procedures for taking water samples
• Explain the importance of following procedures to record the results of swimming pool water tests
• Describe what an active leisure member of staff should do if they identify hazardous contaminants (for example, faeces or vomit)in the water

 

• Be able to carry out swimming pool water testing
• Take water samples
• Carry out the following pool water tests
• pH
• Free disinfectant levels
•  Combined disinfectant levels
• Microbiological
• Record the results of pool water tests

Course Duration

The qualification is designed to be delivered over 4 Hours including assessment.

Assessment Process

This qualification is tutor assessed through the completion of worksheets and practical demonstrations.

Re-qualification Requirements

This qualification is valid for a period of 5 years. The learner needs to retake the qualification before the certificate expiry date to remain qualified.
