NRASTC is a supervision and rescue qualification for teachers working on the poolside or in the water during programmed activities, such as a swimming lesson. It is suitable for teachers working in a wide range of swimming pools where the water is deeper than the teachers’ standing depth and meets the Individual facility’s risk assessment.
The qualification is also named as the “Reach and Rescue” or “Rescue Test for Teachers”
Prerequisites
The NRASTC course is open to anyone who is 16 years of age or older at the date of the assessment and able to:
- Swim a minimum of 50 metres on your front and back
- Surface dive to the deepest part of the pool
- Climb out unaided without using steps or ladders (where venue design permits).
Course Overview
Section 1 – The Teacher, swimming pool and class management
Section 2 – Intervention rescue and emergency action
Section 3 – CPR and first aid
The course is delivered over two days.
Assessment
Independently assessed at the end of the course.
Course Hours
New Candidates 12 hours plus assessment
Renewal Candidates 6 hours plus assessment
How long does it last for ?
- It lasts for 2 years from initial course assessment date.
- Candidates need to complete 6 hours training or evidence of 6 hours ongoing training plus assessment.
