The Emergency Paediatric First Aid Award aims to give the candidate knowledge and assess them on their ability to deal with emergency situations, how to recognise and respond to serious medical conditions and serious injuries.

Who should attend

  • Parents or family members who want to learn key paediatric first aid skills
  • Those who work with children and are not required to comply with Ofsted’s Childcare Register or EYFS requirements
  • Those who want to provide additional support in their organisation to the paediatric first aiders that are trained to meet EYFS or Ofsted Childcare Register requirements

Please note: This qualification does not fulfil Ofsted’s first aid requirements for early years teachers, nursery workers and child minders (as defined within the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage 2014 and within The Child Care Register guide). Those who need to comply with Ofsted’s Childcare Register or EYFS requirements should complete the 2 day Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (QCF).

What you will learn

Unit 1: Emergency Paediatric First Aid – Day One

Course Overview

The content of the course covers:

  • Understanding the role of the paediatric first aider
  • How to provide first aid for an infant and a child who is unresponsive and not breathing normally
  • How to provide first aid to an infant and a child who is suffering from shock
  • How to assess an emergency situation and act safely and effectively
  • How to provide first aid for an infant and a child who has a foreign body airway obstruction
  • How to provide first aid for an infant and a child who is unresponsive and breathing normally
  • How to provide first aid to an infant and a child who is wounded and bleeding

Course Duration : 6 hours (1 Day)

Assessment Process

Continual assessment by the tutor

  • Complete a worksheet during the course
  • Demonstrate the ability to carry out CPR on an adult, child and infant manikin
  • Demonstrate the ability to carry out first aid for an unconscious casualty
  • Demonstrate the ability to carry out first aid for a child in an emergency situation
  • Demonstrating Underpinning knowledge by Multiple Choice, Work Sheets or Question & Answers

 Qualification Expiry/ Re-qualification

How to re-qualify:

Qualification is valid for three  years, in order to re-qualify, learners must be assessed against all learning outcomes and assessment criteria in the unit. For Emergency Paediatric First Aid this will be the same as the initial course of 6 hours.
